For job descriptions of the Museum and Archive Collection Maintenance Volunteer/Intern positions we are recruiting for because of the IMLS Museums for America Collection Stewardship Grant for the article and links to those descriptions.
We welcome volunteers to work as docents, or guides during regular museum hours, and also to host tours by appointment.
We are experiencing an increase in visitors, questions and donations to the museum, and to the archival collection.
Help we need:
Cataloging the museum collections
Learning the collections so you can offeer reference help
Clipping news articles or copying from the Internet
Photocopying articles and documents on acid free paper
Labeling articles and documents to be filed in the Park Forest File, etc.
Photocopying, labeling and filing are done at the Park Forest Public Library
People to learn to process and handle the collection
Archival photograph scanning, labeling, digital copying
Recording data about and taking photographs of architecture in the village
Transcribing veterans' oral histories
Recording oral histories of village residents, past and present
Videotaping our programs
Maintaining the building and grounds
Assisting with programs and events
Publicity and distributing museum and program fliers
Talent in graphic design
Website maintenance
Public Speaking for civic, school and scout groups
Fundraising experience--special events, bake sales,
commemorative sales, raffles, auctions, etc.
Newsletter writing, design, printing
Meeting notice writing, design, printing
Emailing newsletters and meeting notices
to our membership and mailing list
Social networking--keeping our name out on the Web 2.0 sites
Geocaching experience to set up sites and maintain them
